Yes. You can copy trades between a cTrader account and a MetaTrader account that are not on the same computer. What decides it is where the copier runs. A copier installed on your PC links terminals on that one machine, so cTrader and MetaTrader both have to be open there. A cloud copier connects to each account at its broker, so it does not matter where your terminals are, or whether they are open at all.
Can you copy trades from cTrader to MT4 or MT5?
Yes, in either direction. A copier watches one account, the source account, and repeats each open and close on the follower accounts. The platform is a property of each account, not of the link between them, so cTrader to MT4, cTrader to MT5 and MetaTrader to cTrader are the same job.
Two things change with the platforms. One is what the platforms disagree about: instrument names, volume steps and account mode. That is covered in copying between MT4, MT5 and cTrader. The other is where the copying software has to run, which is what this guide is about.
Why a copier on your PC needs both platforms on that PC
An installed copier works inside the terminals. It puts a piece in each one, typically an Expert Advisor in MetaTrader and a cBot in cTrader, and the pieces pass trades to each other on the machine they share. So every terminal involved has to be installed, logged in and open on one computer.
The tools say so on their own pages. One local copier that covers MT4, MT5 and cTrader describes itself as built for sending and receiving terminals "on the same computer or VPS". Two MetaTrader copiers say the same of themselves, and one of them points to a separate product for terminals on different computers. (Read on 14 October 2026.)
Where a remote mode exists, it does not remove the machines. Each computer still runs its own terminal and its own copy of the software, and each has to stay on and online for as long as you want trades copied.
What "different machines" looks like in practice
Most people asking this question are in one of four situations. The table shows what each one needs from the two kinds of copier.
| Your setup | Copier installed on a PC | Cloud copier |
|---|---|---|
| cTrader on a Mac, MetaTrader on a Windows PC | Both terminals moved onto one machine | Works as it is |
| cTrader on your laptop, MetaTrader on a VPS | cTrader installed on the VPS too | Works as it is, and the VPS is no longer needed |
| You trade cTrader from your phone or the web | A desktop terminal added for that account, kept open | Works as it is |
| Accounts at two different brokers | One terminal per account, all on one machine | Works as it is |
How a cloud copier reaches each account
A cloud copier does not run inside any terminal. It connects to each account from its own servers, so your computers are not part of the path. With Trepeat the two platforms connect differently:
- cTrader. You sign in with your cTrader ID on cTrader's own site and choose which trading accounts Trepeat may use. There is no cTrader password in Trepeat, and you can withdraw the access in cTrader at any time. See connecting a cTrader account.
- MetaTrader. You enter the account number, the trading password and the broker's server name, and choose MT4 or MT5. See connecting a MetaTrader account.
After that, nothing runs on your side. There is no Expert Advisor, no cBot and no terminal to leave open, and copying continues with every one of your computers switched off. How it works describes both routes, and a trade copier for Mac and phone covers running it with no Windows PC.
A worked example: a cTrader source and two MetaTrader followers
Say you trade a cTrader account from a Mac and want each trade repeated on an MT5 account and an MT4 account. In Trepeat the steps are:
- Add the cTrader account. Choose cTrader, sign in on cTrader's site and pick the account from the list that comes back.
- Add each MetaTrader account with its number, trading password and server. Adding a MetaTrader account starts the subscription: the free trial covers cTrader accounts only.
- Create a repeater. New repeater is a three-step form: a name and the source account, then the follower accounts, then sizing. Tick both MetaTrader accounts as followers.
- Check the symbol names. cTrader brokers often write an index with spaces, such as US 500, where a MetaTrader broker writes US500. Trepeat reads each account's symbol list and suggests the matching name. You confirm or replace it. See symbol mapping across brokers.
- Press Run. A new repeater is saved Stopped. The badge moves from Starting to Syncing to Running, which commonly takes between thirty seconds and two minutes on a cold connection.
- Place a trade on the cTrader account from the desktop app, the web or your phone. A copy opens on each follower. Close the source position and both copies close.
The reverse works the same way: make the MetaTrader account the source and tick the cTrader account as a follower. The full walk-through is in your first repeater.
What is copied, and what is not
Trepeat copies opens and closes, in full or in part, as market orders. Three limits apply on every platform pair:
- Stop loss and take profit are not placed on the follower. The copy closes when the source position closes.
- Pending orders are not copied. When a limit or stop order fills on the source, that fill is copied as a market order.
- Only trades opened while the repeater is Running are copied. A position already open when you press Run is not repeated.
Size is worked out for each follower, by a multiplier or by each account's equity. Position sizing when copying trades has the arithmetic, and netting vs hedging accounts covers what changes when a follower keeps one net position per symbol.
When a copier on one PC is the better choice
An installed copier fits when both platforms already run on one computer that stays on while you trade, when you would rather keep your MetaTrader password in your own terminal, or when you trade live real-money accounts. Trepeat currently connects demo-environment accounts only, the type prop-firm evaluation and funded accounts usually run on. Cloud vs local (VPS) trade copier compares the two models in full.
Where Trepeat fits
Trepeat is the cloud model for this job. You connect accounts you own on cTrader, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, create a repeater and press Run. From then on it repeats the trades you place on your source account onto your follower accounts, whichever platform each one is on and whichever computer you happen to be using.
It costs $15 per account per month with every feature included, and the smallest subscription is 2 accounts, a source and a follower. The free trial is 1 week on up to 3 cTrader accounts. Each direction has its own page: the cTrader to MT4 trade copier, the cTrader to MT5 trade copier, the MT4 to cTrader trade copier and the MT5 to cTrader trade copier.
