Tradervue's free plan counts trades; another journal's counts executions. The conversion, worked with made-up numbers, and the markets each covers.

Tradervue's free plan is counted in trades, not executions, and the count goes by the month you import, not the month you traded. That is the first thing worth knowing when you set it beside another journal's free plan, because other vendors count in other units. This page works through the difference with made-up numbers, then lists the markets each journal covers, for traders of forex and CFDs.

Tradervue

  • Free plan. Free accounts are “limited to importing 30 trades per calendar month”. The count is of trades, not executions, and goes by the month of import.
  • Paid plans. Silver is $29.95 a month and Gold is $49.95 a month, with “no limit on the number of trades that can be imported”. No yearly price is listed.
  • Trial. Silver and Gold: a trial for new users, length not stated, card charged when it ends. You can switch to a free plan before the trial ends.
  • Markets. “Trading Journal for Stocks, Options, Futures & Forex”. Stocks and ETFs, futures, forex and options are listed, without saying which plan has which. CFDs are not mentioned.

Trades and executions are different units

An execution is a single fill. A trade, to Tradervue, is several executions grouped into one logical trade, and its limit counts the groups. TradesViz caps its free plan at “3000 executions per month”, which counts the fills, so the table reads one execution as one fill.

The inputs below are made up, to show the arithmetic. They are not anyone's trading. A trade closed in one go has two fills (in and out); one closed in stages has more.

Fills per tradeFills in 30 tradesTrades that fit in 3000 fills
2601500
3901000
4120750
6180500

Middle column: 30 trades × fills per trade. Right-hand column: 3000 ÷ fills per trade, rounded down. With 3 fills a trade, that is 90 fills and 1000 trades.

The two caps sit on different plans with different limits elsewhere (the free TradesViz plan has one trading account and stocks only), and a monthly count resets on the month of import, so a backlog imported all at once lands in one month. The arithmetic says nothing about which product is better. It only shows that “30” and “3000” are not directly comparable until you know what each counts.

Forex and CFDs: markets covered

A journal can cover forex without saying so, so “not listed” means the vendor does not say, not that it is unsupported.

For a trader on MT4, MT5 or cTrader the useful question is usually the platform, not the asset class: how trades from those platforms get in, and whether the vendor names them. That is on the Edgewonk alternatives page. The prices of the products named here are side by side on the pricing page, and the free plans on the free-plan page.

What this page does not say

  • It does not say Tradervue lacks forex or CFD support. Its own site lists forex and does not mention CFDs.
  • It does not recommend a replacement. “Alternatives” here means the other products on this page.
  • It does not cover how well any of them imports from a given broker. A free plan or a trial is the way to test that.

Where Trepeat is

Trepeat is not in the tables. Its journal holds copied trades only, so it is not a like-for-like comparison yet.

We're working on a free journal and a backtester, with no date yet. Today Trepeat is a trade copier for MT4, MT5 and cTrader, currently on demo accounts, and you can add notes, a grade and screenshots to any copied trade once it closes, with a calendar of your results.

The journal documentation says what the journal of copied trades holds.
