Free Trading Journals Compared: What Free Includes

Four journals offer a free plan and count it four different ways. What each free plan includes, which vendors list none, and how a trial differs.

On this page

Of the eight journal products on this page, four have a free plan: TradesViz, Tradervue, TraderWaves and Consistry. They count “free” four different ways: executions a month, trades a month, accounts, and no cap with limits on features instead. This page lists what each free plan includes and the vendors that list no free plan.

What each free plan includes

VendorWhat free includesWhat the lowest paid plan lists
TradesVizBasic, “free forever”: 1 trading account, stocks only, import limit of 3000 executions per month, 2 image charts per trade.Pro: All listed asset classes; unlimited imports
TradervueFree accounts are “limited to importing 30 trades per calendar month”. The count is of trades, not executions, and goes by the month of import.Silver: Broker Sync, Advanced Reporting
TraderWaves“Free forever. No credit card needed.”: 3 trading accounts, standard sync, auto and CSV imports, unlimited journal entries and unlimited image uploads, charts, watchlists, customisable analytics, core trade metrics, PnL calendar, trade and account sharing. Custom tags, self-assessment review, equity and drawdown analytics and CSV export are listed under Pro.Pro: Custom tags, self-assessment review, equity and drawdown analytics, CSV export, backtesting, Monte Carlo simulator, AI coach, portfolio mode, alerts; one alert account included, extra ones “+$5/mo each”
Consistry“$0/forever”: unlimited trades and prop firm accounts, MT4 and MT5 statement import and any CSV, journal, strategy and trading plan, discipline score and consistency analytics, notes with screenshots, finance tracker, news calendar, a “basic simulator”.Premium: Auto-sync, AI tools, voice coach, rule-based backtest, push alerts

Prices as of November 2026. Check the vendor's site before you buy. The right-hand column is what the paid plan lists, not a list of what the free plan lacks: several vendors do not say. Quotation marks are the vendor's own words.

Vendors with no free plan

  • TradeZella. No free plan listed. Trial or refund: None stated.
  • Edgewonk. No free plan listed. Trial or refund: None; 14-day money-back.
  • TradeTanto. No free plan listed. Trial or refund: None stated.
  • Tradesyncer. No free plan listed. The journal comes with a 7-day trial that asks for a card and charges on day 7. Trial or refund: 7 days, card required.

A trial is not a free plan

Among the vendors with no free plan, one offers a trial that asks for a card, one a 14-day money-back guarantee instead of a trial, and two list neither. A trial ends, and two vendors say the card is charged when it does; a free plan carries on within its limits. The two are easy to confuse on a pricing page, so the matrix on trading journals compared keeps them in separate columns, Free plan and Trial or refund.

Questions worth asking of any free tier

  • What does it count? Executions, trades and accounts are three different units. A worked conversion between the first two is on the Tradervue alternatives page.
  • Does it cover the market you trade? One vendor limits its free plan to stocks while its paid plans list forex and CFDs. Check the market before the limit.
  • Can you get your data out? One vendor lists .csv export under its paid plan. If you may leave, read the export line before you start recording.
  • How do trades get in on the free plan? Some vendors offer file import free and auto-sync paid; others list both on every tier. How each vendor words this is set out on the Edgewonk alternatives page.

The wider list of things to check is the trading journal features checklist, and what each plan costs is on the pricing page.

Where Trepeat is

Trepeat is not in this comparison, because it does not have a free journal to put in it.

We're working on a free journal and a backtester, with no date yet. Today Trepeat is a trade copier for MT4, MT5 and cTrader, currently on demo accounts, and you can add notes, a grade and screenshots to any copied trade once it closes, with a calendar of your results.

The journal of copied trades is part of the copier.

Free Trading Journals Compared — common questions

Is there a completely free trading journal?

TradesViz, Tradervue, TraderWaves, Consistry have a free plan. Each has limits: TradesViz (3000 executions a month, 1 account, stocks); Tradervue (30 trades a month); TraderWaves (3 accounts); Consistry (unlimited trades and accounts, import only). Pricing changes, so check the vendor before you start.

What is the difference between a free plan and a free trial?

A free plan carries on within its limits. A trial ends, and some vendors charge the card when it does. The two read alike on a pricing page, so this page keeps them in separate columns.

Do free trading journals limit the number of trades?

Some count trades, some count executions, some count accounts, and some set no count and limit features instead. Check the unit before comparing numbers: 30 trades and 3000 executions are not directly comparable.

Is Trepeat's journal free?

Trepeat does not have a free standalone journal yet. We are working on one and have no date. Today's journal of copied trades is part of the Trepeat copier, which currently connects demo accounts only.
