Trade Copier Glossary

Short definitions of the words our guides and docs use, from lot and contract size to netting and slippage. Each one links to the page that goes deeper.

C

Contract size

The number of units one lot stands for at a broker, such as 5,000 ounces of silver. Two brokers can set different contract sizes for the same instrument, so 1.00 lot is not always the same position.

In Trepeat: when both brokers report a contract size and the two differ, the copy is sized to the same exposure. When either size is unknown, nothing is converted.

D

Demo account

An account on a broker's demo server rather than its live one. Many prop-firm evaluation and funded accounts are demo accounts, on a MetaTrader demo server or a cTrader demo account.

In Trepeat: it currently connects demo accounts only, and refuses a live account when you connect it.

E

Equity and balance

Balance is what an account holds from deposits and closed trades. Equity is the balance plus the profit or loss of the positions still open, so it moves with the market while trades are open.

In Trepeat: equity ratio sizing uses the latest equity Trepeat holds for each account; the dashboard's Equity tile uses the balance where a broker reported no equity.

Equity ratio

A sizing rule: the follower lot is the source lot times the follower's equity divided by the source's equity. A follower with twice the equity opens twice the size.

In Trepeat: one of the two sizing rules a repeater can use; the other is a fixed multiplier, which is the default.

Evaluation and funded account

The accounts a prop firm issues under its programme. Each arrives with the programme's rulebook: loss limits, and often rules about which tools may place orders on it.

In Trepeat: those rules are neither read nor enforced, so read them before you connect an account. Many of these accounts run on demo servers, which is what Trepeat connects.

Expert Advisor

Also called EA

An automated program that runs a strategy inside one MetaTrader terminal. It decides and places trades on that one account, and only while the terminal is open.

In Trepeat: nothing is installed in your terminal. A source account traded by an Expert Advisor is copied like any other.

F

Follower account

An account that receives copies. It takes each open and close from the source account, sized by the repeater's rule.

In Trepeat: a repeater can have several follower accounts.

H

Hedging account

An account that keeps every order as its own position. Buy the same symbol twice and you hold two positions.

L

Latency

The time between a trade filling on the source and its copy filling on a follower. It is spread over three stages: detecting the source fill, sending the order, and the follower broker's own execution, usually the largest.

In Trepeat: every copy shows its own time on the Trades page.

Lot

The unit a trade's size is counted in. One lot is one contract size of the instrument, and 0.01 lot is a hundredth of it.

N

Netting account

An account that keeps a single net position per symbol. A second buy adds to the first; a sell reduces it.

In Trepeat: a netting account carries a Netting pill on the Accounts page.

P

Partial close

Closing part of a position and leaving the rest open.

In Trepeat: closing part of a source position closes the same proportion of each copy. When that share is below the smallest trade a follower's broker accepts, the whole copy is closed and an alert says so.

Pip and point

The units a price move or a stop-loss distance is counted in: pips on most currency pairs, points on indices and other instruments, with sizes that differ by instrument and broker. A pip's value on a 1.00-lot position is the contract size times the pip size, converted into your account currency.

In Trepeat: the lot size calculator takes the stop-loss in pips or points; its default value, $10, is a 100,000-unit lot of a USD-quoted pair in a USD account.

R

Repeater

Trepeat's name for the link from a source account to its follower accounts, and everything about how the copy is made. A repeater is either Running or Stopped.

Read more: Repeater settings

S

Slippage

The difference between the price a copy was expected to fill at and the price it filled at. A copy is placed after the source fills, so its price can differ.

Read more: Why follower fills differ from the source

Source account

The account whose trades are copied. You trade it as usual, by hand or with an Expert Advisor, and the copier repeats each open and close onto the followers.

Symbol allowlist

A list that limits a repeater to the symbols on it. Left empty, as it starts, the repeater repeats every symbol.

In Trepeat: it lists the source account's symbol names, and it is checked before any symbol remapping.

Read more: Symbol allowlist and remapping

Symbol remapping

A rule that tells a repeater what a source symbol is called on the follower, because brokers name the same instrument differently: XAUUSD at one broker, GOLD at another.

In Trepeat: a match is suggested, never applied until you accept it. Without a remapping, the copy is placed under the source's name.

V

Volume step

The increment a broker lets a symbol's size move in. It is 0.01 lot on most currency pairs; some index and crypto CFDs step in 0.1, 1 or more.

In Trepeat: each copy is rounded to the follower symbol's own volume step, with Floor rounding by default, and a result below that symbol's minimum is skipped.

VPS

Also called Virtual Private Server

A Windows machine you rent in a data centre, install the terminal and copier on, and leave running around the clock. It typically costs a few tens of dollars a month.

In Trepeat: no VPS is needed: copying runs on Trepeat's servers whether or not your computer is on.
