Your Prop Firm Has Its Own Trade Copier: When You Still Need Another

Some prop firms now build a free copier into their dashboard. When it is all you need, and when accounts at other firms or brokers call for an independent one.

If every account you trade is at one prop firm, and that firm's own copier covers your platforms, use it. It is free, it already sees your accounts, and the firm has said it may be used. You need an independent copier when your accounts are spread across firms or brokers, when one of them runs on MT4, or when you want a personal demo account in the same set-up. This guide sets out both cases, and the rules that decide between them.

What is a prop firm's built-in copier?

Some prop firms now put a trade copier inside their own trader dashboard, free for the firm's customers. You pick one of your accounts at that firm to copy from and others at the same firm to copy to. There is nothing to connect, because the firm already holds the accounts.

The ones seen so far share one limit by design: they copy only between that firm's own accounts. An account at another firm, or at a broker, is outside what they can reach. Which platforms they support is up to each firm, so check the list before you rely on one.

When is the built-in copier the right choice?

Often. A built-in copier is the simpler choice when all of these are true:

  • Every account you want to copy between is at the same firm.
  • The firm's copier supports the platform each of those accounts runs on.
  • You do not need a personal or broker account in the same set-up.
  • Its sizing options fit how you size your accounts.

In that case an outside copier adds a subscription and a connect step and gives you little in return. There is a second reason to stay with it: a firm that ships its own copier may permit copying only through that tool. If your firm's rules say so, the question is settled on those accounts, whatever another copier can do.

When do you still need an independent copier?

You need one when your accounts do not all sit inside one firm's dashboard. The usual cases:

  • Accounts at two or more firms. Traders often hold evaluations at several firms at once. A built-in copier at one firm cannot place a trade at another, so you are back to entering the same order by hand on every account outside it. See running several prop firm evaluations at once.
  • Accounts at a firm and at a broker. A broker's demo account, kept to test a strategy beside your firm accounts, is outside any firm's copier. Copying between prop firm and personal accounts covers that mix.
  • An MT4 account. Not every built-in copier supports MT4. If one of your accounts runs on it, check before you plan around the firm's tool.
  • Different platforms in one set-up. A source on MT5 with followers on cTrader, or the other way round, at different firms. See copying trades between MT4, MT5 and cTrader.
  • One place for alerts and history. With accounts at several firms, each firm's dashboard shows only its own part. One copier across all of them shows every copy, and every copy that failed, in one list.

Can you use both at once?

Mechanically, yes: the firm's copier between its own accounts, and an independent copier for everything else. In practice it is easy to end up with two tools copying the same trade onto the same account. Keep each account in one tool only, and read the firm's rules first: a firm that allows copying only through its own copier may not accept another tool on those accounts at all.

What Trepeat does across firms and brokers

Trepeat is a cloud trade copier for your own accounts, across firms and brokers. You connect each account once, create a repeater from a source account to one or more follower accounts, and press Run. What it gives a trader with accounts in several places:

  • MT4, MT5 and cTrader, in any direction. A source on one platform repeats onto followers on the others, at different firms and brokers.
  • Nothing to keep running. Trepeat runs on its own servers. There is no EA to install and no VPS to rent, and copying continues with your computer off.
  • Sizing per repeater. A fixed multiplier, or equity ratio, which sizes each follower by its equity against the source's. See position sizing when copying trades.
  • Symbol remapping. Firms and brokers name the same instrument differently. A remapping places the copy under the follower's name. See symbol mapping across brokers.
  • Alerts and one history. A failed or skipped copy is kept on the trade with its reason and raises an alert, and an alert can be emailed when copying stops. The Trades page shows each copy beside its source trade, with its size, fill price and how long it took.

Two things to know before you compare. Trepeat is paid, per account, where a firm's copier is free. And it currently connects demo-environment accounts only, the type many prop-firm evaluation and funded accounts run on. It copies opens and closes, in full or in part, and does not place stop loss or take profit orders on the follower: a copy closes when the source position closes. Pricing and the free trial has the terms.

Your firm's rules decide

No copier, built-in or independent, changes what your firm allows. Read the current terms for each account type you hold. Look for a copy-trading clause, limits on correlated accounts, exposure caps counted across all your accounts, and any requirement to declare outside tools. Prop firm rules on copy trading shows how to read those clauses, and what your firm sees sets out what a firm can see from Trepeat on each platform. If a clause is unclear, ask the firm's support in writing.

How to decide

Count where your accounts are. All at one firm, on platforms its copier supports: use the firm's copier. Spread across firms or brokers, on MT4, or mixed with a personal demo account: an independent copier is the tool that reaches all of them. How to choose a trade copier gives the questions to put to any copier, and your first repeater has the steps to set one up in Trepeat.

Your Prop Firm Has Its Own Trade Copier — common questions

Should I use my prop firm's built-in copier?

If every account you copy between is at that one firm and its copier supports your platforms, yes: it is free, it already sees your accounts, and the firm has said it may be used. Some firms permit copying only through their own tool, so read the firm's terms first.

Can a prop firm's copier copy to an account at another firm?

The built-in copiers seen so far copy only between that firm's own accounts. An account at another firm or at a broker is outside what they reach, so trades on those accounts are back to being entered by hand unless you use an independent copier.

Can I use the firm's copier and an independent copier together?

Mechanically yes, but keep each account in one tool only, or the same trade can be copied twice onto it. Read the firm's rules first: a firm that allows copying only through its own copier may not accept another tool on those accounts.
