Trade Copier for Mac and Phone: No Windows Needed

Most copiers run inside a Windows terminal. A cloud copier installs nothing, so you can set it up on a Mac and Run or Stop it from a phone browser.

Yes. You can copy trades from a Mac or a phone, with no Windows PC, if the copier runs in the cloud. An installed copier lives inside a desktop trading terminal, and MetaTrader's desktop terminal is Windows software. A cloud copier connects to your accounts from its own servers, so the device in your hand is only the screen you use to set it up, Run it and Stop it.

Is there a trade copier for Mac?

Yes, in two forms. You can run a Windows copier on a Mac through a compatibility layer or a rented Windows server, or you can use a cloud copier that installs nothing. Only the second works the same on a Mac, a phone and a PC.

Why do most trade copiers need Windows?

Most trade copiers are Expert Advisors, and an Expert Advisor runs inside the MetaTrader desktop terminal. That terminal is built for Windows. MetaQuotes does offer a Mac installer, and its own help page says what the installer does: it sets up Wine, a layer for running Windows programs, and installs MetaTrader inside it.

So an installed copier on a Mac means Windows software running through that layer, one terminal for each account, on a Mac that cannot sleep while you want trades copied. Whether a particular copier works that way is for its publisher to say. For the installed model in general, see whether you need an MT4 plug-in to copy trades.

cTrader is less tied to Windows. It comes as web, mobile, Windows and Mac apps. A copier still has to run somewhere, though, and an installed one runs on a computer you keep on. If your cTrader and MetaTrader accounts sit on different machines, see copying between cTrader and MetaTrader on different computers.

Can a trade copier run on a phone?

Not an installed one. The MetaTrader phone apps are for placing and managing trades. MetaQuotes' feature list for the MetaTrader 5 mobile apps covers orders, charts, indicators and trade history, and does not list Expert Advisors. A copier EA is installed in the desktop terminal, which a phone does not have.

What a phone can do is control a copier that runs somewhere else. With a cloud copier that is all the phone needs to do, because the copying happens on the provider's servers.

What you can do in Trepeat from a phone browser

Everything you can do on a desktop. Trepeat is a web app, so there is nothing to install on the phone either: you open it in the browser. It is the whole app, not a cut-down version. Below tablet width the tables become cards, so nothing scrolls sideways. From a phone you can:

  • Connect an account. A MetaTrader account takes its number, trading password and server. A cTrader account is a sign-in on cTrader's own site in the same browser.
  • Create a repeater in the three-step form: a name and the source account, the follower accounts, then sizing.
  • Press Run and Stop. Each repeater's card carries the control. Stop ends copying and closes nothing.
  • Read each copy on the Trades page: its size, its fill price, how long it took, and the reason if it failed.
  • See alerts in the app. The ones that matter most are also emailed: copying that has stopped, or a position left exposed.

One note for Safari on a Mac or an iPhone. When you add a cTrader account, Trepeat signs your browser out of cTrader first so that you can choose which cTrader ID to use. Safari can block that step. If cTrader goes straight to its consent screen with the wrong ID, use the sign-out link in the Add account dialog and continue again. Connecting a cTrader account has the detail.

Does it matter which device you place the trade on?

No. Trepeat watches the source account at the broker, not a terminal on your desk. A trade placed in the MetaTrader phone app, in cTrader on a Mac or in a web terminal is the same fill on the account, and that fill is what gets copied. The follower accounts need no device at all.

Trepeat copies opens and closes, in full or in part. It does not place stop loss or take profit orders on the follower: the copy closes when the source position closes. How it works sets out what that means if the source closes while copying is interrupted.

What happens when your phone or Mac is off?

Copying continues. The repeater runs on Trepeat's servers, so closing the browser, losing signal or running out of battery does not stop it. Your phone is only a window onto it. Where the software runs is compared in cloud vs local (VPS) trade copier.

Setting it up from a Mac or a phone

Setup takes five steps and needs only a browser.

  1. Open Trepeat in your browser and sign up.
  2. Add the source account and at least one follower account. See connecting a MetaTrader account.
  3. Create a repeater. Every setting already has a value, so a first one can be created as it is.
  4. Press Run. A new repeater is saved Stopped. The badge moves from Starting to Syncing to Running, which commonly takes between thirty seconds and two minutes on a cold connection.
  5. Place a trade on the source account from any device. The copies open on the followers and appear on the Trades page.

If the two accounts are at different brokers, check the symbol names before the first trade. Symbol mapping across brokers explains why, and your first repeater has the full walk-through.

When a Windows PC is still the better tool

An installed copier on a Windows PC fits when that PC is on through your sessions anyway, when you want your password to stay in your own terminal, or when you trade live real-money accounts. Trepeat currently connects demo-environment accounts only, the type prop-firm evaluation and funded accounts usually run on.

Where Trepeat fits

Trepeat is a cloud trade copier for accounts you own on MT4, MT5 and cTrader. You set it up in a browser on whatever you have, and from then on it repeats the trades you place on your source account onto your follower accounts with none of your devices switched on.

It costs $15 per account per month with every feature included, and the smallest subscription is 2 accounts, a source and a follower. The free trial is 1 week on up to 3 cTrader accounts, and MT4 and MT5 accounts connect as soon as you subscribe. To copy one account to several from a phone, start with the multi-account trade copier.

Trade Copier for Mac and Phone — common questions

Is there a trade copier for Mac?

Yes. A cloud trade copier installs nothing, so it works from a Mac browser. An installed copier is Windows software inside a MetaTrader terminal; on a Mac that means running the terminal through a compatibility layer or on a rented Windows server.

Can I copy trades from my phone?

Yes, with a cloud copier. You place the trade on your source account in your broker's phone app, and the copier repeats it on your follower accounts from its own servers. Trepeat itself opens in a phone browser, where you can press Run and Stop.

Does copying stop when my phone or Mac is off?

No. A Trepeat repeater runs on Trepeat's servers, so closing the browser, losing signal or switching the device off does not stop it.

Do I need Windows or a VPS to use a trade copier?

Only for an installed copier, which needs its terminals open on a Windows machine. A cloud copier needs neither: there is no terminal to keep open and no server to rent.
