Your first repeater

From two connected accounts to a first copied trade, and what to check if nothing copies.

This page is the thread from two connected broker accounts to a first copied trade. Each step links to the reference page that owns the detail.

What you need first

  • Two broker accounts, connected. One is the source account, the other the follower account. See MetaTrader or cTrader. Demo accounts only — a live account cannot reach Connected at all.
  • A free repeater slot. Your plan sets how many repeaters you can hold; at the limit the New Repeater button is unavailable and says so. See Plans, slots and trials.

Creating the repeater

New Repeater on the Repeaters page opens a three-step form. It offers every account that is not archived or deleted, whatever its status — Run is what needs them connected, not creation.

  • Setup — a name, up to 30 characters, and the source account. Both are required before you can continue. If the account you pick is already the source or a follower in another repeater, the step says which.
  • Accounts — tick one or more follower accounts. The source is not offered, and at least one follower is required. With no second account available the step says so and offers a way to connect one.
  • Risk — sizing, symbol allowlist and symbol remapping. Every field already has a value, so a first repeater can be created without changing anything here.

Create repeater saves it Stopped. Nothing is copied yet. A follower whose account is in Error or Disconnected at that moment is added paused, so a known-broken account cannot silently fail on the first trade.

The settings, and what they start as

  • Sizing mode — Multiplier. The alternative is Equity ratio, which sizes each copy by the follower's equity against the source's.
  • Multiplier — 1×. Range 0.01× to 100×. At 1× the follower receives the same quantity as the source.
  • Max Volume — Unlimited. Range 0.01 to 10,000 lots when set. It caps each single copy, not the total you hold.
  • Quantity Rounding — Floor. Rounds down to the follower symbol's volume step. Round and Ceiling are the alternatives.
  • Order confirmation limit — 5 seconds. Range 1 to 30. A copy confirmed later than this counts as failed.
  • Symbol allowlist — empty, which copies every symbol, and symbol remapping — no rows.

Each of these is defined in full, with the order they are applied in, on Repeater settings. The one worth attending to before the first run is remapping, if your two accounts are at different brokers.

Pressing Run

Run is the control on the repeater's own row. Pressing it connects the accounts the repeater needs: an account resting on Standby moves through Connecting to Connected.

The repeater's badge follows the same progress — Starting while an account is still connecting, Syncing once every account has connected and only the reading of broker history remains, then Running. A cold connection commonly takes between thirty seconds and two minutes; the row states which account it is waiting on.

If Run is refused, the control carries the reason rather than failing silently — a source account that is archived, deleted, in error or still disconnecting, a repeater with no follower accounts, or every follower paused or in error.

Your first copied trade

Place a trade on the source account while the repeater is Running. It is recorded on Trades as a group: one row for the source trade — its date, the source account and the repeater it went through, the symbol, direction, quantity and fill price, and a status rolled up from the copies.

Expanding the group shows one row per follower account: how long the copy took, the follower account, the symbol it was actually placed under — with the source's name beside it when a mapping renamed it — the quantity after sizing and rounding, the fill price, and whether the broker accepted it. Trades and positions covers each status.

Only trades opened while the repeater is Running are copied. A position already open on the source when you press Run is not repeated: fills that predate the last Run are dropped rather than replayed.

If nothing copies

  • Symbol naming — the most common cause. If the follower does not list the source's symbol name, the broker refuses the order. See Symbol allowlist and remapping.
  • The allowlist excludes it — a non-empty allowlist copies only what it lists. Everything else is recorded Skipped rather than dropped without trace.
  • The follower is paused — including the automatic pause applied at creation to an account that was in error or disconnected.
  • The repeater was not yet Running — a badge still reading Starting or Syncing when you traded, or a position opened before Run.

Nothing fails quietly: a refused or skipped copy keeps its reason on the trade row and raises an alert naming the symbol and the follower. Check Alerts first, then Activity logs for what happened to the accounts around that moment.

Stopping

Stop ends copying. It does not close anything. Every open position stays exactly where it is, on the source and on the followers, and remains yours to close. Accounts no longer needed by any Running repeater return to Standby.

With positions still open, Stop asks first, offering Stop, leave open or Flatten and stop, which requests closure of the listed positions before stopping. Running, Stopped and open positions covers what each choice leaves behind.
